Improv

Lights, camera, action! Last week, performing arts teacher Charlotte took students from Period 5 Improv Class and Improv Club to an outing at The Magnet Theater. The Magnet Theatre is one of the most well recognized improv schools and theatres in New York City. Students participated in a mixer, where they warmed up and some even had the opportunity to get up on stage themselves. Afterwards they attended the theater's Megawatt show, where they got to observe improv experts demonstrate the techniques they've been learning about in class.

The group also had the surprise opportunity to meet the infamous Armando Diaz, who is one of the founders of the theater. Diaz inspired a form of improv the students will be studying in the third and fourth quarter. Overall this was a great evening of performance that allowed students to step outside of their comfort zone, work together, and perform original work for a live audience.

We love how field trips enhance what students learn in the classroom. Stay tuned for more about the fantastic opportunities our students have to broaden their horizons outside of the classroom.
