Stevenson Gives Thanks

Stevenson students, parents, faculty and staff expressed thankfulness in a variety of ways during the months of November and December.

Stevenson has a Tuesday before Thanksgiving tradition during which there’s a schoolwide gathering to share Thanksgiving food. Members of the staff served served chicken so students wouldn’t tire of turkey. Students gathered to share a catered meal and foster community togetherness before departing for the holiday.

The Student Council also created a word cloud asking students, faculty and staff to list two things they were thankful for. Because they used a word cloud survey, the size of the font on the word cloud was determined by the popularity of the response. Sue Sackman worked with the students to administer the survey and collect data, which was used for the word cloud and subsequent display.

Stevenson’s season of thanks and giving continued on December 14th when the members of the Parents Association worked meticulously in the second floor conference room to create goodie bags filled with cookies for all faculty and staff. As Michelle Mintz explained, for the parents the cookies are, “an expression of their appreciation for all your hard work and dedication when working with their children.”

“Many thanks to members of the Parents Association for volunteering and helping package the cookies,” Michelle added. “Thank you to the entire Stevenson parent community for making the holiday cookie giving a huge success!”

Being in the thankful spirit was a consistently popular theme as the holidays approached. As Chris Ongaro wrote to the Stevenson families and staff: “Specifically as Stevenson's Associate Head of School, I am very thankful for having the privilege of working with families devoted to progress, and I am thankful for working with a faculty and staff committed to helping understand and enable such progress. As I consider visitors like Ruby Bridges and the increasing number of volunteers and connections we have throughout the community, I am encouraged by what is truly an atmosphere deserving of thanks.”
