Theatre Students Head to Broadway!

This quarter, our Rehearsal & Performance class teamed up with a teaching artist from Manhattan Theatre Club for an exciting workshop. This unique classroom experience was organized by performing arts teacher Charlotte and culminated in our students heading to Broadway for a student matinee of School Girls, Or the African Mean Girls Play this week. The show is a satirical staged adaptation of Mean Girls set in a Ghanaian high school. Written by Jocelyn Bioh, School Girls, Or the African Mean Girls Play explores various pertinent topics including identify, gender, colonialism, and teenage social dynamics. After the performance, students had the chance to talk directly with cast members, ask questions, and share their reflections before discussing the production with the teaching artist from Manhattan Theatre Club back at Stevenson. We are so grateful to Charlotte and MTC for organizing such a phenomenal opportunity for our student artists to learn directly from Broadway performers and creatives!
